'Bitter Fruit...'September 21, 2008 We've all be watching the embarrassment and sudden death of supposedly respectable financial giants, and hearing varied answers to the inevitable question "Why is this happening?". Most of those answers don't inspire any more confidence than the dead giants themselves, but Mike Babnick of First National Bank sent us an analysis from The American Banker which seems to get it right. It's a tale of unrestrained corporate greed encouraged by an incompetent government, but more importantly it's about the dangers of "bigness" in corporate and political life. This is definitely recommended reading. You can grab it in pdf format (173 KB) here. |
